Universal motors with commutators are used with standard AC power supplies available universally.

DC motors with commutators are used with DC supplies of power available with recitified outputs or batteries, used widely in traction and transportation sectors.

Motors with commutators are used widely in domestic sectors for applications like mixies, grinders, juicers, hand blenders, sewing machines etc.,

Manufacturing Technology

The commutators use ETP or silver bearing copper material suitably drawn and punched out to required shapes and sizes called segments.

These segments are assembled with interleaving mica insulator pieces and firmly bonded using high temperature glass filled phenolic moulding compound.

The major requirement of moulding compound is met through indigenous sources, and a small quantity requiring high temperature usage like electrical power tools applications is met through imports.

Types of Commutators manufactured

Arr Kay Enterprises have developed wide variety of commutators by extensive toolings for production.

These types include

Core/Slot type, use in medium duty electrical power tools, mixies and blenders etc., used in domestic sector. Riser/slot type, used in heavy duty electrical power tools, food processors etc.,

High riser type, used in heavy duty DC motors and generators for traction motors.

Using shell type, used in wiper motors, power window motors etc., for transportation sector.

Hook type used in light duty electrical power tools like drills, impact drills, hammer drills, cutters, grinders and domestic mixies.

Tang Flat type, used in special micromotors used in sewing machines, printers etc.,
