If you are entering mid-life, be prepared for new health challenges and life style changes. Besides a few grey hairs and wrinkles, most of us will experience some vision changes. It will be harder to read fine print, see close objects clearly or read a menu in a dimly lit restaurant. This condition is Presbyopia. It happens to everyone. This condition can develop as early as 40 or as late as 50. By 50 virtually everyone is presbyopic.
Presbyopia is a gradual process caused by the hardening of thye eye lens. This process makes the eye become less flexible and less able to change and in turn impairs one's ability to see up close. In fact, 90% of people over 45 need some type of vision correction.
How can Presbyopia be corrected?
There are number of options available.
Reading glasses
Reading glasses provide close-up vision only. Reading glasses are usually half glasses that are often a nuisance to the wearer, who must constantly take them on and off for mid range and distance viewing.
Bifocal lenses
Bifocal lenses have two distinct viewing zones, helping us to see objects both close up and far away. They do not provide intermediate/mid-range vision.
Conventional bifocals have a well-defined visible line separating the two viewing zones which makes them cosmetically less attractive.
Progressive lenses
Progressive lenses are the most attractive solution. They provide clear continuous visionj at all distances, up close, mid range and far away. This gives you clear vision from looking up from reading to looking at the computer screen to looking at an object across the road.
Progressive lenses have no visible line spearating the viewing zones, providing uninterrupted viewing at all distances. Not only will wearers look better, they also enjoy a better, more natural vision.
