Some facts about orthodontic treatment

  • Orthodontic treatment can be done AT ANY AGE, as long as the teeth and gums are healthy.

  • The BEST AGE for orthodontic treatment is between NINE to ELEVEN years as at that time, the child is growing and the milk teeth are just starting to fall.

At this stage, the child's growth pattern can be used/guided to achieve a better result. Also, the permanent teeth can be guided into their proper position, relatively easily, in most cases.

  • There is NO NEED TO WAIT FOR all the MILK TOOTH TO FALL or the CHILD TO BE TWELVE YEARS OF AGE, before starting orthodontic treatment.

  • The FIRST CHECK UP FOR ORTHODONTIC PROBLEM should be done at SEVEN years of age, even if you don't see anything wrong with the child's teeth

  • If the child has a beautiful set of milk teeth, it is not necessary that he/she will have a perfect set of permanent teeth.

  • Orthodontic treatment is not an extremely painful treatment. At the same time it is not a totally painless procedure. Whenever the doctor puts a new wire or tightens the old wire the patient may experience pain for the next two days or so. Thereafter the patient will be completely all right.

  • It is not always necessary to remove permanent teeth to get orthodontic treatment done.

  • Proper brushing of the gum and teeth during as well as after the orthodontic treatment plays a very important role in the long-term stability of the result achieved.

  • Patient's co-operation and attitude towards the treatment are the most important factors responsible for a successful treatment.
