A Maharashtrian eye-doctor Dr.Giridhar Raghunath Limaye who was charged with the effort to remove maladies of eye-diseases and blindness among the people, a shortcoming affecting their ability and crippling them from life's major activities and so eliminate this deficiency this disability of his afflicted fellowmen, Dr.Limaye, the eye-surgeon with outmost dedication and service to humanity, an M.S.degree holder in Ophthalmology, getting the opportunity of going to UK for further studies and experience but spurning the offer to stay back and serve the helpless humanity that needed his expertise and medical attention, opening his own eye hospital at Pune, Maharashtra, to serve the people beter, looking after their special complaints, complications and curing them providing then with special eye-surgery, taking urgent care of the patients, administering to them his own medicines for better effects and relief, being Honorary eye-surgeon to various Hospitals, Institutions, Municipal Bodies and social organisations, guided by the motto and ideal of service before self, charging minimum, negligible or taken fees from poor and needy patients, his life having been a great instance of a farsighted social activist utilising his medical excellence not for financial or commercial gams but for the benefits of his patients, his main achievement being the drawing up the Project-prototype of a Rural Medical College at Talegaon, Maharashtra and getting the project sanctioned, having been so efficient himself as to perform eye operations at places without electricity, only with the help of Big Jungle Torches, a man of exceptional humanity, an expert, happy and intoxicated with his work and not with the returns, an unsung hero and patriot of India whose work had always spoken and drawn patients to him and not any motivated publicity, a true son of praise and appreciation from all. |
