Raj started business in a meagre way, conducting and managing tours only to Srinagar and South India. And in its infant stages, Raj had to struggle hard to outbeat the already well-established competitors. Raj marketed the tours in such an aggressive manner and offered such a high quality product as compared to the other operators, that it was in a position to charge the highest tour price in the industry and still remain unbeatable.

At Raj… we are innovators! The pre-departure get-togethers, the idea of a library and games on tour, facility of a mobile T.V. and the intercom, all specially carried from Bombay, were the brain child of Raj.

With a perpetual new concept at hand and very active marketing, Raj operated its maiden tour in 1979 with a full strength of 44 people to Bangkok, Hangkong, Manila, Singapore and Kaulalumpur. And from then, there was no looking back. Raj has just forged ahead, holding its banner high.

Heading west in the mid-seventies, like the proverbial soldier of fortune in search of gold at the end of his rainbow, Mr.Lalit Sheth landed in Bombay, with a couple of thousand rupees in his wallet. With the family fortunes skating on thin ice after the loss of his father, Mr. Sheth was determined to rebuild it, even if had to, from scratch.

Having failed in his endeavours to set up a chemist shop, he next diverted his attention towards posing as an ordinary tourist and conducted a personal survey of the competition. The conclusions of his study were shocking. But his strong willed nature overpowered, and he was determined to make travel and tourism his career.
